House prices rising in Donegal at twice the national rate – report

Donegal has among the cheapest houses in Ireland, however, prices are soaring here at twice the national rate.

That’s according to the latest Q4 Irish Independent REA Average House Price Index.

It has found a clear divide that splits the nation down the middle in terms of the rate of property price increases during the past three months.

Three-bedroom semi-detached homes in counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo increased by over €10,000 during that time – with an average annual rise of 16pc.

This is twice the rate of increase in commuter counties, which rose by 7.5pc.

Agents are blaming the steep price increases on the absence of new home building, and historically low supply in certain parts of the country.

However, the average price of a 3-bed semi-detached home in Donegal is €180,000, the cheapest county in the country to buy houses in.
