The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Councillor Niamh Kennedy, has cited ‘#LoveDonegal Day’ as one of her highlights of the year.
The Killybegs-based Independent representative was speaking in her address to the Donegal Diaspora through the ‘Donegal Connections’ e-zine which was sent out to subscribers across Ireland and the world.
“One of the standout moments of 2024 was the overwhelming success of #LoveDonegal Day, which reached an incredible global audience of over 147 million,” she said.
“The love and pride for Donegal shone brightly across continents, showing just how deeply our county is cherished by those near and far.”
Each year, Donegal welcomes home thousands of people for the festive season, a tradition that connects generations across the globe.
However, Cathaoirleach Kennedy said she was mindful that not everyone can make the journey home.
“Our hearts go out to those unable to return, and to all impacted by the challenges of 2024, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and the continued suffering in Gaza,” she added.
“This season, we also take a moment to remember those who have lost loved ones this year. May their memory bring comfort during this time of reflection and togetherness.
Wherever in the world you are celebrating, I wish you and your family good health, joy, and peace this Christmas. May 2025 bring happiness and success in all that you do.”
