Huge turnout in Moville for Claire’s Walk For The Irish Liver Foundation

Over 150 people took to the streets in Moville earlier today to raise money for the Irish Liver Foundation.

Claire McLaughlin was inspired to set up the event and fundraiser for the charity after making use of its services.

She was diagnosed with a rare condition called Wilson’s disease in 2005, a condition that can cause a buildup of copper in the organs over time.

Claire suffered severe liver problems in 2019 and required a transplant – luckily only having to wait a month before a suitable donor liver was found.

She required the assistance of the Foundation yet again in 2023 when she ran into more liver issues, necessitating weekly trips to Dublin for treatment.

“The expense on families in these situations is a lot and after seeing first-hand what it takes I want to do something to raise funds for the Irish Liver Foundation to continue the great work they do,” Claire said launching the fundraiser.

And raise funds she did, as the local community in Milford turned out in great numbers for today’s 5k fun run and walk.

Donations on the day today currently stand at over €3,800 according to organisers.

Additional donations to their fundraiser can be made online via GoFundMe.
