Funeral details confirmed for popular actress, Rachel O’Connor

The Funeral Mass for award-winning actress and director Rachel O’Connor will be held in her native Belleek this Friday, 3rd January.

Rachel O’Connor (née Garvin) was a leading light in the Ballyshannon drama scene as a long-standing member of the Ballyshannon Drama Society.

She passed away peacefully at the weekend, surrounded by family following a battle with cancer.

Earlier this year, Rachel was crowned the Best Actress at the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival for her lead role in ‘Margaret’. Rachel had enthralled audiences across Donegal with her portrayal of former British PM Margaret Thatcher in the unique political drama penned and directed by Ballybofey duo Shaun Byrne and Monica Doherty.

Tributes to Rachel have poured in from across the local and national arts scene, celebrating her exceptional acting talent, her dedication to the arts, and her inspiring influence on countless individuals within the theatre community.

Obituary Notice: 

The death has occurred of Rachel O’Connor (née Garvin), 228 Brollagh Road, Belleek, Co. Fermanagh, BT93 3FU. Rachel passed peacefully, with her loving family, in the Palliative Care Unit, Omagh.

Remains will repose at her residence for a walk-through wake on Thursday from 2pm to 8pm with house private at all other times.

Removal to St. Patrick’s Church Belleek on Friday to arrive for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium Dublin Rd, Cavan H12RF78

Rachel will be sadly missed as the beloved wife of Seán and loving mother of daughters Sophie and Lauren and son Ros. Devoted daughter of the late Frank and Eileen Garvin. Deeply regretted by her brother Frank (Veronica), sisters Anne (John), Geraldine, Jenny, Felicity (Sean), nieces, nephews and the extended O’Connor family.

Family flowers only, donations in lieu if desired to the Palliative Care Unit, Omagh c/o any family member or Peter Carty Funeral Director, Garrison.
