Cllr Meehan seeking answers about Ramelton water supply issues

Cllr Declan Meehan says he is pushing for clarity for residents in the Ramelton area suffering from ongoing water supply issues.

Residents in the Roughpark area of the town have suffered from intermittent outages over recent years, some of which can be for extended periods of time.

Cllr Meehan has contacted Uisce Eireann recently regarding the water outages, but has criticised the lack of clarity in the water utility provider’s response.

Following a recent query from the Councillor, Uisce Éireann said: “High demand in Ramelton and the surrounding areas has led to intermittent water supply issues in the vicinity. A recently completed hydraulic analysis of the wider water supply network has shown that strategic infrastructural improvements are necessary to enhance service at Rough Park and the Ramelton areas.”

“Uisce Éireann is currently assessing the required works with our internal departments. We continue to minimize water supply interruptions as much as possible by optimizing booster pumping and network valving arrangements in the affected areas.”

However, Cllr Meehan is demanding further answers from Uisce Eireann regarding what upgrades are required for the area, and a timeline for their installation.

“This issue has been going on for far too long,” Cllr Meehan said.

“While I welcome the recently completed hydraulic analysis, and the ongoing internal assessments of required upgrades locally, people need clarity on what work will be required, and when it will be completed. Only then can both residents and public representatives hold the water supplier to account on delivery for people in the area.”

According to Cllr Meehan, improvements to the water system across the county are needed – especially for the development of new properties.

A dependable and reliable water supply is not only essential for existing residents, farms and businesses, but it is also crucial for the development of future homes which are desperately needed across the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.”

Cllr. Meehan encouraged anyone experiencing water supply issues to contact Uisce Éireann by telephone on 1800 278 278 or by email at operations@water.ie (open 24/7, 365 days). He also asked that people make him aware of any issues so that he can also raise them directly with the water company.
