A man in his 50s has been arrested following a security incident at Connolly Station in Dublin last night.
Gardaí received reports of a man carrying a suspected firearm on Sligo to Dublin train arriving into the station.
He was not alleged to have made any threats towards any passengers onboard.
Armed gardaí entered the station in central Dublin during the incident on Wednesday evening.
The station was evacuated and a security sweep of both the station and the train took place.
The man was arrested at the scene and has been detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
The suspected firearm was seized and a full technical examination will be conducted to determine its status under Irish legislation, gardaí said.
Connolly Station was closed during the incident but has since re-opened as there are no ongoing public safety issues.

They said it was “aware of commentary in circulation online in relation to this incident which contains misinformation, disinformation and fake news”.
“Once again, An Garda Síochána appeal to the public to independently verify any information that is shared on social media and/or sent through messaging sharing apps,” gardaí added.
