Tributes have been paid to popular businessman PJ Rooney following his death.

PJ was a stalwart in the business and GAA community in Laghey.

He founded the family business, Laghey Waste LTD, and was a crucial member of his local GAA club, Naomh Brid as well as founder of the Donegal Supporters Club.

PJ took on a multitude of roles at Naomh Brid over the years, including as the club’s President.

His beloved club paid tribute to him via social media today.

“PJ was a great character and a very important part of our club in both past and recent times. He was not only a sponsor, a coach, club officer, chairperson, and, most recently, as our club president.”

“He was very influential on how our club is today, and all his voluntary work was carried out with great passion and pride.”

“We also remember that PJ was also very influential in setting up the Donegal supporters club in which is going strong to date. We today are struck with such sadness but will hold onto many fond memories of our time shared.”

“Until we meet again. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.”

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

PJ’s Remains will repose at his family home from 2pm on Saturday 11th, with removal on Monday the 13th at 10:15am going to St. Brigid’s Church, Ballintra for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.

Funeral Mass will be streamed live on www.churchservices.tv/ballintra.
