A 31-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother and the attempted murder of his father in County Cavan last weekend.
Gardaí were alerted to what they described as a serious incident in the rural townland of Kilnavart, around 7km west of Ballyconnell.
When gardaí arrived at the family home, Annie Heyneman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 55-year-old’s husband, Henk, was found with serious injuries and was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
At Monaghan District Court, Danny Heyneman of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell was charged with the murder of his mother – Annie Heyneman – and the attempted murder of his father – Henk Heyneman – at Kilnavart, Ballyconnell.
He was remanded in custody to appear before Cavan District Court via video-link on Friday.
