HSE security guard injured following ‘videoing’ incident at Letterkenny Hospital

A security guard at Letterkenny University Hospital was viciously assaulted by a member of the public.

The incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Accident and Emergency treatment ward of the hospital.

The man who was assaulted is a member of the security team employed by the HSE at the hospital.

The alleged attacked was accompanying another person for treatment at the hospital when the incident happened.

Donegal Daily understands the alleged attacker was using his phone to video the hospital when security staff spoke to him.

However, the incident escalated and the man had to be restrained.

Eye-witnesses said the security guard received a number of injuries and his shirt was also ripped.

Gardai were called and the man was removed from the hospital.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed their enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

“Gardaí received a report of an assault at a premises at Kilmacrennan Road, Letterkenny, at around 2.30am on Thursday, 16th January 2025. Enquiries are ongoing,” said the spokesperson.
