Fundraiser launched for Convoy carer following brain surgery

A fundraiser has been launched to help Donegal woman as she recovers from a major brain surgery.

Amelia McKeever, from Convoy, suffered a seizure while on holidays in Lanzarote in November.

Following the seizure, a cyst was found in her brain but no action was taken.

Six weeks later, she presented to hospital again with stroke-like symptoms, and was quickly rushed to Beaumount Hospital in Dublin so the cyst could be removed.

Thanks to the fantastic care she received she was able to spend home at Christmas, but will now have to spend the next six months off from her work as a carer with the HSE due to her recovery.

Her daughter Jade has set up the fundraiser to help her mum through that difficult period.

“My mum is a carer and spends every day of her life caring for people in her community and she loves it so much but unfortunately she will have to take 6 or more months off now to recover,” Jade told Donegal Daily.

“She isn’t allowed to drive for 6 months to a year, which is why she will need a little bit of help and support throughout this time.”

Jade also expressed the thanks both her and her mum have for the staff at Beaumont who carried out the procedure and aided in Amelia’s recovery.

“(It) was tough as it was so close to Christmas and we didn’t think she would be out, but thanks to the Doctors, Surgeons and nurses there she’s recovering amazingly well,” Jade said.
