Letterkenny artist Peadar McDaid launches new Boglands exhibition

Letterkenny artist Peadar McDaid has launched a brand new exhibition of his works, called Boglands.

His latest works were put on display and launched at An Gailearaí, Gweedore on Saturday by fellow artist and friend of Peadar, Daniel Neilis.

There was also a special poetry recital on the evening by local performer Jack Ó Maolàine.

Peadar, who created these new artworks with help from an Artist Bursary award from Donegal County Council, said that “Boglands is a series of 14 large scale paintings capturing the environment and nature of these parts of our landscapes.”

“Initially a series of studies and preliminary drawings were completed on these boglands before the large scale painting’s were created at my studio in Milford.”

“I use colour, form and depth to evoke a sense of the living landscape of the Northwest Ireland. My practice operates as observation, absorption and interpretation. These visual assimilations then pass through into my work as the artist journeys forward with the paint. Some of the works create their own journey and evolve with the passage of time.”

“The North and West of Ireland, beautiful, battered and bruised with its wild coastline and its deep moody glens, mountains and boglands, has completely captured my imagination.”

The collection of oil paintings can be viewed at An Gailearaí until the 28th of February.

Opening hours are 11am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, apart from Wednesday when An Gailearaí is open at the later time of 1pm to 8pm.
