A major extension and refurbishment plan for St Columba’s College in Stranorlar has gone to tender stage.

Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD has given authorisation to the Board of Management of the school to go ahead with the process.

Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the news.

It is hoped that the Tendering process will be completed by the third quarter of this year, with construction to commence in early 2026.

The major building project includes the provision of 6 Science labs, 4 Construction/Engineering Rooms, 2 Art Rooms, 2 Home Economic Rooms, 2 Computer/Multi Media labs, A Multi-Purpose Hall and Fitness Suite, a Library, a number of general classrooms, offices, a Special Needs base and external hardcourt play areas.

The proposed development will cater for the current enrolment of 1,000 students.

Deputy Gallagher said “I have a long association with the school community as well as the wider Finn Valley area and I welcome the Minister of Education’s proposed investment in the second level education facilities in Stranorlar.

I wish the Principal, Board of Management, staff, students and parents of St. Columba’s College continued success in the delivery of this important project which will serve the community well into the future.”

The development has also been warmly welcomed by local Councillor Patrick Mc Gowan.
