The reopening of Lettermacaward Health Centre has been welcomed.
The facility had been closed for more than 2 years but opened its doors again today.
Last December the HSE said the delay in reopening the centre was due to the process of equipping it.
The centre was closed for renovations with patients attending Glenties Primary Care Centre in the interim.
Deputy Pearse Doherty has welcomed the reopening.
He said “I am delighted to hear the news that Lettermacaward GP Surgery has been opened today and is taking appointments.
“It has been a long road for the local community, who had their health centre taken away from them over two years ago.
“Over one year ago, it also had major works completed to it which made the failure to have it open and serving the community even more frustrating.
“The local community and campaigners have done trojan work to keep the issue to the fore over that time.
“Both myself and Cllr Brian Carr have raised the issue of the reopening of the Health Centre repeatedly with the HSE over that time.
“It is not clear how many days the surgery will be open yet and this is something I will follow up on to get clarity.
“As for now, this is a great day for the community in Lettermacaward and the surrounding area.”
