Naomh Padraig Lifford are hosting a special 7-a-side tournament fundraiser for clubman Charles Dooher.

Charles remains in a serious condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, after a brutal attack suffered at his home in Lifford just over a week ago.

His beloved GAA club has now launched a fundraiser to help raise money for Charles in his fight for life, in the shape of a 7-a-side tournament.

The tournament will take place on Sunday the 16th of February in Lifford, and the club has appealed for any players interested in forming and entering a team to come forward.

“We are holding a 7-a-side fundraiser at our pitch on Sunday the 16th of February in aid of Charles Dooher, who is currently in hospital fighting for his life,” the club posted on social media.

“Charles is a vital member of our club and we hope he makes a full and speedy recovery and back home with his family doing what he loves best.”

“Our 7-a-side (3 subs) will consist of 3 players that are currently playing GAA for a club. The other members of your team have to be past players or your mother, father, granny, or granda. It’s a day of fun and to bring our community together for a great cause.”

“All money raised will help Charles’s family with travelling up and down to Belfast.”

“If you are interested in entering a team into our competition, please get in contact with Square Mc Nulty on Facebook or 086 06 83 866 or just message the club’s Facebook page.”

“Always keep Charles in your thoughts and prayers,” Naomh Padraig concluded.

Meanwhile Gardaí have again appealed to the public for information regarding the brutal attack.

“Our investigation is ongoing in relation to an incident which occurred in Lifford on Monday the 20th of January when two men were seriously assaulted at a house at around 10am,” a Garda spokesperson said in a statement.

“One man (aged in his 20s) was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, for treatment of serious injuries. The second man (aged in his 60s) was brought by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of less-serious injuries. The man in his 20’s remains in hospital.”

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward, and are making a particular call to motorists with a dash-cam who were travelling in the Coneyburrow Road area of Lifford on the morning of the attack to come forward.

“Anybody who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the Coneyburrow Road, Lifford between 10am and 11am on that date is asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,” the spokesperson said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 91 67 100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
