BREAKING: Man arrested as Gardai seize €41,000 drugs haul in Letterkenny

Gardai have made a significant drugs find in Letterkenny.

Members of the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit yesterday raided a residential property in the Ballymacool area of the town.

Inside the property they recovered a large quantity of both cannabis and methamphetamine.

The cannabis herb has an estimated street value of €30,500 and methamphetamine worth €10,500 (subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland).

A man aged in his 30s was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda Station in Co. Donegal under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He was subsequently charged to appear before Letterkenny District Court next month.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed a raid did has taken place.

The spokesperson said “As part of ongoing investigations targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the region, Gardaí from Co Donegal seized cannabis and crystal meth worth €41,000 and arrested a man during a search on Thursday, 30th January, 2025.

“During the search of a residential property in Letterkenny, the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit seized cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €30,500 and methamphetamine worth €10,500 (subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland).

“A man (aged in his 30s) was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda Station in Co. Donegal under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He was subsequently charged to appear before Letterkenny District Court next.” month.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2nd July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
