A Carrigart woman’s culinary venture in the Lake District has received high praise in a glowing review from a renowned chef.
Pauline McCarry is the co-owner of Bandtio Burrito in Windermere, alongside Newcastle native Lynne Parker.
In the five years since they took over the business, their success has been marked by awards, including Best Family Restaurant in the UK, and top critic reviews.
The latest praise comes from Irini Tzortzoglou, winner of MasterChef 2019, who raved about the cafe’s warm atmosphere and flavourful dishes in the new edition of Cumbria Life magazine.
“The food at this intimate warm and friendly cafe can best be described as Mexican fusion with a Scottish twist, offering vibrant street-food style dishes packed with authentic and diverse flavours,” Tzortzoglou writes, highlighting the joy of meeting friends in quick and affordable eateries.
Of Banditio Burrito, she said: “The menu bursts with the bold flavours of Mexican spices and sauces, but what made me nostalgic – apart from the lively chat with friends – was the ability to customise dishes.
She adds: “Judging by the number of diners on the day of my visit, I’d strongly recommend booking if you’re a fan of Mexican food.”
Last month, Pauline received a surprise visit at the restaurant from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker and his family. Despite being a Gunner, Pauline enjoyed some lighthearted football chat with Becker.
A former pupil of Carrigart National School, Mc Carry has been in business in the UK for twenty years, starting in Glasgow, then moving to London, and now residing in the Lake District. She always loves to welcome fellow Donegal natives to her restaurant.
