In a remarkable achievement, the pupils of a Scoil Cholmcille, Letterkenny have won Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking (SPHE) at the 2025 FÍS Film Awards for their film The Race.

The awards ceremony took place yesterday at The Helix in Dublin, and this marks the second consecutive year that the school has won a coveted FÍS Film Award.

Last year, the school took home the Best Drama Award for their film The Award.

The award-winning film was created by last year’s 5th and 6th class pupils under the guidance of Mr. McGowan and Mr. Heneghan.

The talented group of students made the trip to Dublin for the prestigious event, where Max and Alfie (now a first-year at St. Eunan’s College) had the honour of accepting the award on behalf of their classmates, both past and present.

RTÉ’s Sinéad Kennedy presented the two students with a beautiful trophy and an iPad as part of the recognition for their outstanding efforts, creativity and dedication throughout the filmmaking process.

The journey to the FÍS Film Award was a true team effort, with contributions from not only the pupils and staff at the school but also several key individuals and organisations.

Special thanks were extended to Mr. Seamus Coleman, the school’s caretaker; Sergeant Eunan Walsh and Garda Maeve Sweeney at the Letterkenny Garda Station; Ms. Kelda Doherty and Mr. Geoffrey McGonigle at the Letterkenny Court House; and Puneet and Jully Saluja for their invaluable support.

The entire school community is celebrating this remarkable achievement and everyone involved in the making of The Race is deserving of a huge congratulations.

This win further cements the school’s reputation for excellence in the arts and film production, and it is clear that the future of filmmaking is bright in the hands of these talented young creators.

If you have five minutes to spare for the movie, you won’t be disappointed.
