A five-year-old boy and a man in his 20s have died in separate road crashes in Co Laois and Co Westmeath this weekend.
The boy was killed after he was struck by a car in Kilminchy in Portlaoise at around 4.20pm. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition and died a short time later. The driver of the car, aged in their 40s was not injured.
In Westmeath, a young man in his 20s died after a collision involving a quad bike and motorcycle.
The driver of the quad bike was fatally injured and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male passenger of the quad bike, also in his 20s, was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore with non-life threatening injuries.
The male driver of the motorcycle (20s) remains in critical condition in hospital.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these collisions to contact them.
