Inspirational Geraldine Mullan completes Kilimanjaro charity climb!

Geraldine Mullan completed her gargantuan climb of Mount Kilimanjaro yesterday morning.

The Moville-based woman took on the challenge along with her good friend, Katie Kilpatrick, to raise money for the Children in Crossfire charity.

“Amazing to get this update from Geraldine this morning. She reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro yesterday morning at 7am,” a spokesperson for the Mullan Hope Centre said.

“In her quick update, she said that she is on her way back to base and should be there later this evening. Words cannot express how proud we are of you Geraldine.”

For Geraldine the challenge also has a personal note to it as she lost her beloved mother, Margaret, in the last few weeks and has dedicated her Kilimanjaro journey in part to her, as well as her late husband and children.

The Galway native tragically lost her husband, John and two children, Tomás and Amelia, in a tragic car accident in Inishowen in 2020.

She has dedicated herself in recent years to helping others in memory of her loved ones by charity fundraising and the Mullan Hope Centre – through which work she had the opportunity of getting to know Children in Crossfire founder, Richard Moore.

That connection is what inspired Geraldine to fundraise for the charity during her amazing climb – having raised over £25,000 to date.

Geraldine and her group had their challenge on the highest summit in Africa delayed by one day after their luggage went missing on their connecting flight to Kilimanjaro.
