Charlie Harvey, a beloved figure of St Eunan’s GAA club and retired member of the Defence Forces, has passed away.
Mr Harvey, of Conwal and formerly of Lifford, passed peacefully at his home on Thursday.
Charlie was an ever present figure at O’Donnell Park for more than 50 years.
“A native of Lifford Charlie first came to Letterkenny and Rockhill House as a member of the Defence Forces in 1969,” said a tribute from St Eunan’s.
“In 1974 he married the love of his life Cecilia Boyce from the Port Road and set up home in Conwal. From these early days Charlie began playing with St Eunan’s and helping out with all club activities. Over the years Charlie was always the first man to help out with any jobs that needed doing around the Park. Charlie enjoyed his morning walk from Conwal into O’Donnell Park and took immense pride in the developments at O’Donnell Park over the last 25 years.”
Charlie was a “cornerstone” of the St Eunan’s legendary House Draws, his personality shining as he manned the ticket office on the Market Square.
Later, he ensured his “doc was in safe hands,” directing everyone in Dr. James McDaid’s election office.
Charlie’s dedication to St. Eunan’s and the Letterkenny community will be greatly missed, they said.
“His love for the club has been passed down through the generations with his grandchildren now playing for the club at underage level. His sons Ollie and Cathal are among our most dedicated members, always the first to volunteer when a job needs to be done or tickets sold or money raised.”
Mr Harvey is survived by his loving wife Cecilia, daughter Sarah and husband Alan, sons Ollie and wife Ciamhe and Cathal and wife Suzanne, grandchildren James, Sadie, Grace, Anna, Faye, Charlie, Lucy and Ella, brother Jim, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his brother Hugo.

Charlie’s remains will be reposing at his late residence on Friday 28th February and Saturday 1st March from 12pm until after the Rosary at 9pm.
Funeral from there on Sunday 2nd March at 1.45pm going to St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny for 2.30pm Requiem Mass which can be viewed on www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny. Interment afterwards in Conwal Cemetery. Family time on the morning of the funeral please.
