A second person has been rescued off the coast of Donegal and transferred to hospital by the Rescue 118 helicopter in a matter of hours today.

Members of the Coast Guard and Rescue 118 crew had already been deployed to a medical emergency in Fanad shortly after 2pm – where a patient with a suspected broken ankle was transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital.

Just hours later the alarm was raised again, this time near Portnablagh.

A kayaker got into difficulty on the water at approximately 4pm.

The Malin Head Coast Guard station once again called on the Rescue 118 helicopter to be deployed from its base in Sligo, shortly after completing the previous medical evacuation.

The stricken kayaker was transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital where their condition is currently unknown.
