Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses after the body of a man was discovered in a canal in Dublin yesterday.

The body of the man, who has not yet been identified by Gardaí, was discovered in the Grand Canal at Coolscuddan, Newcastle yesterday morning.

His body was removed from the scene and transferred to a local mortuary where a post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday.

In a statement, Gardaí said that: “Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make this available to Gardaí.”

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on 01 666 7600, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
