A small Donegal Gaeltacht school has launched a fundraising drive to enable them to travel to the World VEX Robotics Championship Finals in the USA.

Last week, three pupils from Scoil Taobhóige, Cloghan, competed and succeeded in the national VEX IQ Robotics final in Cork. The brainy trio are Olibhéar Dunkley, Andrew Ó Tuairisc and Finlay Mac Eachainn.

They successfully completed the task of building a robot that was able to lift balls, move with them, pass and score using a controller.

The boys also had to write a code that would make the robot work autonomously, but still complete all the above skills.

After eight qualifying matches and an intense final, Scoil Taobhóige became the Irish National Teamwork Challenge Champions 2025.

This small, rural, Gaeltacht school is now set for the world stage, representing Ireland in the World VEX Championship Finals In Dallas,Texas In May.

However, they have to raise funds to assist them with travel and accommodation.

“As you can imagine, the cost of travelling to Texas is substantial,” a spokesperson for the school said.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young pupils. As a small rural Donegal Gaeltacht school, we are asking for your help. Every donation will be greatly appreciated and help make dreams come true.”
