A young songwriter from Gweedore, described by Moya Brennan as one of Ireland’s “finest up and coming talents”, has landed her first record label signing.

Lara Sweeney-Doherty, aka Larabel, has signed with Beo Records ahead of her upcoming EP.

Larabel, who holds a degree in Songwriting from BIMM Dublin, began busking on Grafton Street in 2020 and has gone on to perform at Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, and the 3Olympia Theatre, as well as selling out her first headline show in Whelan’s in 2024, and headlining Moya Brennan’s own musical night, Clubeo in Leo’s Tavern.

“A gifted singer and songwriter, Larabel is one of Ireland’s finest up and coming talents,” says Brennan.

Having supported various acts such as David Keenan, Paddy Casey, and Hudson Taylor, Larabel, now 23 years old, has curated a distinct musical style that takes influence from a diverse tapestry of artists such as Ben Howard, Holly Humberstone, and Sinéad  O’Connor.

Signing with Beo Records marks a thrilling milestone in Larabel’s rising career, and her upcoming EP is set to establish her as a standout artist in Ireland’s vibrant and evolving music scene. Aisling Jarvis, Managing Partner of Beo Records, had this to say on the exciting new venture: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Larabel to the Beo Records family. I have been a fan of her music for many years now, and her artistry, passion, and unique sound make her a perfect fit for our roster.

“This upcoming EP is just the beginning of what we know will be an incredible journey, and we can’t wait to share her music with the world. We at Beo Records are committed to elevating and encouraging the Irish music scene, staying true to our mission as a record label run by artists, for artists.

“Larabel encapsulates everything that we believe the music industry needs – hardworking creatives who bring authenticity, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective to their craft. Artists like these deserve an industry that prioritises their well-being, where the focus is on supporting and uplifting them rather than profiting from their art.”

With a captivating stage presence and a rapidly growing fanbase, Larabel is set to take the Irish music scene by storm. Stay tuned for more updates on Larabel’s debut EP, as well as upcoming singles leading up to its release. Launch events/gigs and listening parties will also be taking place, details on those to come over the next few months.
