The young father killed in a tragic farm accident near the Tyrone-Donegal border yesterday has been named locally as John Logue.

Late of Pullytean Road, Ballymongan, Aghyaran, he was in his 40s and had a young child.

It is understood the late Mr Logue was working with machinery at the time of the incident which occurred at around 5pm on the family farm.

The popular young father is well known in Donegal as his home and farm are near the border.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed they attended an incident in the area at 5.24pm yesterday.

Two fire appliances from Castlederg Fire Station and a specialist rescue team also attended the incident.

The Health and Safety Executive for NI (HSENI) confirmed it was investigating the matter.

“HSENI attended an incident in the Castlederg area last night,” a spokesperson said.

“We are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident and, while our enquiries are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment.”

Funeral details are to be confirmed later.
