It is believed that an ambulance rushing to the scene of the St Patrick’s Day fatal incident in Letterkenny was involved in a crash in Stranorlar.

Anthony Gallagher tragically lost his life in the early hours of Monday morning when he and his brother were struck by a car at Lower Main Street. He will be laid to rest this afternoon while his brother, Martin, will watch the funeral from his hospital bed in Galway.

It is understood one of the ambulances rushing to the aid of the two victims was involved in a separate crash a short time earlier.

Gardaí confirmed they attended a traffic collision that occurred at approximately 3am in the Tircallan area of Stranorlar.

“An ambulance and a van were involved in this collision. No injuries were reported,” a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said.

We have asked the National Ambulance Service for a comment.
