Today marks the first anniversary of the tragic deaths in a road crash of a much loved Donegal mother and her two daughters.

Úna Carlin-Bowden (47) died along with her daughters Ciara (14), and Saoirse (10), when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck on the N17 near Claremorris, County Mayo.

They were living in the Maigh Cuilinn area of Co Galway and were travelling home from visiting her father in Donegal when the crash occurred.

Úna was originally from Miltown, Raphoe, but had been living in Galway with her husband, David Bowden, and children for a number of years.

She attended Raphoe Royal and Prior Secondary School and her extended family still live in the area.

Ms Carlin-Bowden and her beautiful daughters were laid to rest alongside her mother, Mary, in the old graveyard in Convoy, following a funeral Mass at a packed St Eunan’s Church, Raphoe.

This Sunday, at 11am, their first anniversary Mass will take place in the same church.

It will be followed by a private tree planting ceremony, led by her father, John, and sisters Caitriona and Eimear, on the family farm at Milltown.
