A planned new look for an historic Twin Towns building has been revealed.

Barry Jackson is seeking planning permission to partially demolish the structure on Ballybofey’s Main Street, known as ‘The Arcade’ and to construct six residential units.

The proposed development will consist of the partial demolition and reconstruction of the building, which backs onto Back Road.

One of the oldest buildings in the town, it has fallen into disrepair in recent years.

During the early part of the last century, it was used as a ‘market house’. Its distinctive arched window was said to have formerly been the main entrance for horses and carts to pass through with their goods.

However, according to drawings submitted with the application, the arched window appears to have been omitted from the new plans.

Donegal County Council planners are to make a decision on the application by the first week of May.
