This Social Inclusion Week, the Central Library Letterkenny will host an exciting presentation by Michelle Murphy, Research & Policy Analyst with Social Justice Ireland.

The event, organised by Europe Direct Letterkenny takes place on Monday 31st March at 12noon.

Michelle will discuss her policy work on sustainability and social inclusion, the importance in ensuring that dialogue and engagement on topicals issues are socially inclusive, and her work with the newly established Just Transition Commission.

The presentation will highlight the goals set out in the European Green Deal and the ongoing work taking place under the EU’s legal framework to meet the 2030 emission reduction target. The event will also highlight opportunities for dialogue and engagement at local level, and the valuable work already underway in raising environmental awareness in communities.

Michelle Murphy said: “The move to a climate neutral economy and society must be fair and must benefit everyone. Key tasks in delivering a just climate transition include the need to maximise employment opportunities, and to support people and communities that may be most negatively affected by the transition away from fossil fuels.”

Kevin McCaul said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Social Justice Ireland for this event. Promoting the benefits of EU membership is a corner stone objective for the European Commission. Here at Europe Direct Letterkenny, we provide information, publications and brochures from EU institutions, information about the Erasmus+ and Discover EU travel opportunities for young people, access to PCs to search for EU material, a freephone link to the Europe Direct Helpdesk, events, talks, exhibitions, and competitions.”

To book this free event please email eudirect@donegallibrary.ie  or telephone Central Library on 074 91 24950.
