A driver is due to appear in court after being caught drug-driving in Letterkenny over the weekend, among other offences.

The driver was initially detected speeding at 139KPH in a speed zone of 100KPH.

When stopped by the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit, the driver tested positive for cocaine.

It then transpired that the driver did not have insurance, tax or NCT on the car and they had a false insurance disc displayed.

“An arrest was made, the vehicle was seized and the driver involved will now receive a number of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices and a date to appear in Court,” said a garda spokesperson.

“Never take unnecessary risks on the roads.”

It was a tragic Mother’s Day weekend on Irish roads, as two women lost their lives and two young children were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Mallow, Co Cork.

A woman in her 60s died after a serious three car crash at Moonameen in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford on Sunday afternoon.

A man in his 70s, named locally as Danny Gallagher from Downings, died following a single-vehicle road crash on the R245 outside Carrigart on Saturday afternoon.
