Gardaí say they are continuing to investigate ‘all circumstances’ surrounding a crash between a van and an ambulance near Stranorlar on St Patrick’s Day.

It is believed the emergency vehicle was rushing to the scene of a fatal incident in Letterkenny when the collision occurred at Tircallan.

Anthony Gallagher tragically lost his life in the early hours of that morning when he and his brother were struck by a car at Lower Main Street.

It is understood one of the ambulances rushing to the aid of the two victims was involved in a crash a short time earlier.

Gardaí confirmed they attended a traffic collision that occurred at approximately 3am in the Tircallan area of Stranorlar.

In an update to Donegal Daily, a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding a two-vehicle road traffic collision at Tircallan, Stranorlar, at around 3am on 17th March, 2025. No further information.”

No injuries were reported following the crash.

The National Ambulance Service declined to comment as the matter was being investigated by Gardaí.
