Finn Harps have confirmed that one of their rising stars faces a lengthy spell out after suffering a significant ankle injury.

19-year-old attacker Max Johnston was taken off the field in the dying moments of Harps’ win away to Athlone on Friday night, after being hurt making a crucial block.

Harps say that he was rushed to Tullamore Hospital for treatment following the incident, and underwent surgery on the injured ankle on Saturday.

The young starlet now faces a road back to recovery following the procedure.

“The club can confirm that Max Johnston suffered a significant ankle injury after a crucial block in the final stages of Friday’s win in Athlone,” Finn Harps said in an official club statement.

“Max was taken to Tullamore Hospital where he received treatment before undergoing surgery on Saturday. He was discharged from hospital on Sunday afternoon and has returned home to rest and recover.”

“Everyone at Finn Park is fully behind Max as he begins his road to recovery and we have no doubt he will be back as strong as ever.”
