Two Loreto Letterkenny students are excited to represent Donegal in the Student Enterprise Programme National Finals in Mullingar this May.

Deborah Diaz, founder of Deborah’s Customised Gifts and Darice Boyle, hat designer at Birdy By D, were the top winners in their categories at the regional finals last month.

Senior Category winner Deborah creates unique personalised gifts, from engraved keychains to LithoLamps that bring photos to life.

“What makes my business special is the attention to detail,” Deborah said. “I make sure that every item is unique and meaningful to my customers. The response so far has been great, with customers loving the personal touch.”

Deborah has also built a custom website, www.deborah.ie, for customers to order products and get in touch.

“I am always looking for new ideas, so I am happy to make any custom products you like,” Deborah adds.

Business teacher, Ms Mairead Boyle said: “Deborah’s dedication and the sheer amount of work she has put into her enterprise project is evident to everyone who has seen it. Her commitment is truly remarkable. We wish her all the best, not only in the National Final, but also in her future entrepreneurial journey. She has a bright future ahead of her.”

Darcie Boyle, founder of Birdy by D, was the winner in the Intermediate category.

Darcie’s business specializes in custom embroidered hats, giving customers the freedom to personalize their style with high-quality designs.

Darcie explains her business story: “I identified a gap in the market for affordable and unique headwear, which led me to create a brand focused on individuality and craftsmanship. Every hat is carefully made to ensure the best quality, and the response has been fantastic—customers love the personal touch and attention to detail! If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind hat, feel free to reach out and place an order.” Check out @birdy_byd on Instagram

Darcie’s Business teacher, Lisa Mc Gowan, said: “Darcie is a very driven and enthusiastic person when it comes to business. We are so delighted that she’s representing Donegal in the intermediate competition. We wish her all the best.”

The National Final takes place on Thursday, 8th May in Mullingal

St. Columba’s College, Stranorlar students Sophie Coulter and Cara Coulter, founders of Reading Angels, will also compete in the national final having won in the Junior Category.

Since the Student Enterprise Programme began in 2003, over 350,000 students have taken part, learning key skills on how to create a business idea, start a business and grow a business.
