Housing Minister’s Dublin focus “slap in the face” for Donegal – Ward

Donegal Deputy Charles Ward has hit out at the Housing Minister for recent comments regarding the Government’s focus on solving the housing crisis in Dublin.

During an interview on RTE Radio One last week. Minister for Housing James Browne stated that “If we solve the housing crisis in Dublin, we solve the housing crisis for the entire country”.

100% Redress TD Charles Ward says that comment was “a slap in the face for impacted homeowners in Donegal.”

He is urging Minister Browne to visit people affected by the housing crisis and the defective block crisis in Donegal, so he can “…give them the answers that they’re needing.’

Continuing, Deputy Ward said that “…we must listen to those who have been impacted, these are the people who know this crisis first hand and who truly understand what is needed to tackle it.”

“Their voices have been ignored, and their proposed solutions rejected, for far too long. What impacted homeowners are telling us is: the current scheme is a failure.”

Deputy Ward has also hit out at the continuing refusal of Government to exclude foundations from the defective block scheme.

He said that the labelling of the scheme as the “defective concrete blocks scheme” was “…an insult to homeowners whose foundations are affected by defective concrete.”

“This government has chosen to ignore a critical structural element of affected homes, leaving families at serious risk,” he said.
