ATU Donegal’s Letterkenny campus annual charity 5K was a great success on Tuesday 1st April with a turnout of more than 250 runners and walkers.
The increasingly popular event, now in its 13th year, is open to all – the community, general public, staff students and children – and welcomes everyone and all abilities.
Danny Mooney of LAC was the first man home and Katie Gibbons from Mayo AC was the first female runner.
ATU Donegal extends both delight and gratitude to PGIM for its continuing generous support of the charitable event both last year and again in 2025.
This year’s charity was Pieta North-West, the suicide and self-harm prevention charity, supporting those in need throughout the county. Paula Coyle, Clinical Services Manager states “it’s incredible to have this level of support and engagement here in Letterkenny. Pieta are so lucky to have a great relationship with ATU but the success of this year’s 5K is really special to us, due to the reliance on community support to raise more than 85% of the funds needed to keep our doors open. With the support of the community we can keep our life saving services free of charge and freely accessible to everyone in our community. Huge thanks again to all involved”
ATU Sports Centre manager, Helen Kennedy says that ‘ATU Donegal’s annual charity 5K is an ever-growing community event which welcomes everyone and all abilities. This year, ATU Donegal, along with our sponsor PGIM, were delighted to support Pieta northwest. All participants’ entry fees and donations have raised much needed funds to sustain its vital services. ATU extends huge thanks to all participants, organisers, volunteers and sponsor whose support each year has helped ATU’s 5K grow into an event of great community spirit and generosity’.
ATU Donegal Sport Centre is delighted to welcome everyone through its doors, at any time, not just for the 5K, including children for its annual July summer camps.
Next year’s ATU charity 5K will be held on April 14th, 2026.
