Charles Dooher in ‘excellent spirits’ after major surgery!

A popular young Lifford viciously attacked in his home in January is said to be in ‘excellent spirits’ after undergoing major surgery yesterday.

Charles (26) was beaten by five masked men armed with iron batons in what is being treated as attempted murder at his home on the Coneyburrow Road on Monday, January 20th.

He suffered catastrophic head injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he underwent surgery yesterday.

A statement released by the family’s Belfast-based solicitor, Madden and Finucane, said he is well on the road to recovery.

“This is hopefully Charles’ last major surgical operation,” the statement read.

“The Dooher family have been advised by medical consultants that the protective plate has now been successfully fitted to Charles’s head, and the operation appears to have completed without complication. Charles is currently sitting up in his hospital bed, in excellent spirits and chatting to his family. The Dooher family now look forward to Charles finally coming home to Donegal.”

It is believed dissident republicans from Derry are among those involved in the attack, a fact reported by Donegal Daily back in February. Two men were arrested in January by the PSNI in Derry and were later released on bail.

The family have reiterated their call to the public on both sides of the border for any information to be passed to Lifford Garda Station, the PSNI at Maydown, or if they prefer in the first instance, to Madden & Finucane Solicitors in Derry or Belfast on 048 9023 8007.

“They also would like to thank the very many persons on both sides of the border who have provided them with tremendous support and assistance over the last three months.”
