He got out of the country so he wouldn’t have to pay the fire service call-out charge to extinguish the blaze from the 60 candles on his birthday cake.
Legendary Letterkenny man Harry Walsh took his family off to Lanzarote to celebrate his milestone birthday today.
The Ballyraine boy retired from the Donegal News a while back and is living life to the full having hung up his reporter’s mac.
Having overcome some well-documented health issues along the way (Facebook readers will remember him breaking the cancer recovery bell not to mention another small trip in a helicopter!), Harry is one of life’s true gentlemen.
A noted footballer having controlled the backline at numerous clubs including Finn Harps and Letterkenny Rovers, he was no doubt grinning from ear to ear when his beloved Arsenal did the double over Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this week.
No doubt wife Patricia and children Megan, Danny and Paul helped the old man home after a few Carlsberg.
Now that he has folded away his notebook, Harry can be found walking the beaches of Narin and Portnoo near his adopted home in Ardara and on occasion on rambles overseas to do a leg or two of the Camino in Northern Spain.
But wherever you come across him, you’re always guaranteed a laugh and a yarn from a man whose pleasant disposition we could all learn a thing or two from.
Many happy returns old timer and have a great Good Friday.
