Gardaí are again urging the public to drive safely and be responsible this weekend, after a blitz of speeding and other driving detections.
Over 1,300 drivers have been caught speeding nationwide in the 72 hours since the Easter Bank Holiday Road Safety Operation got underway on Thursday.
Meanwhile 65 separate drivers were caught drink or drug driving in that same time period.
Gardaí have again issued a stark reminder to the public, urging road users to be sensible this evening and on Bank Holiday Monday.
“Half of those fatally injured in road traffic collisions this year have been the driver, while two-thirds of all fatal collisions involved a single vehicle,” Gardaí said.
“This long weekend there are more road users out on the roads than usual whether out walking, cycling or driving to go see loved ones. We urge you to please slow down, do not drive while under the influence and please keep your focus on the road.”
