Downings Ladies GAA Club was honoured with a Mayor’s Reception last night by Councillor Gerry McMonagle and members of the Letterkenny / Milford Municipal District.

The award is in recognition of the Club’s outstanding success at a local and national level.

On the 29th of September 2024, the Downings Ladies became Donegal Junior champions by beating Naomh Padraig Muff in O’Donnell Park. This was the start of a long and exciting journey for the girls. In the Ulster Final on the 16th of November, they came up against Warrenpoint of Down. The match went all the way to extra time with the Downings ladies’ heart and determination sealing a one-point victory and creating history for the ladies.

The journey was not over yet and again in Páirc Na Dunaibh on the 1st of December they beat Kilcock from Kildare to reach the All-Ireland Final. The Final was held in Parnell Park on the 15th of December where they came up against a very strong Mungret from Limerick. The ladies played their hearts out on the day but just came up short. Their dedication, hard work and passion for the game has not only brought glory to the team but has also made a lasting impact on their Club, their Parish and the entire county.

Cllr Gerry McMonagle, Mayor congratulated the Club on their success and acknowledged the important role models that the team and staff have become to the young people in the community.
