Letterkenny will unite in mourning today for the funeral of a special young girl, Kalize McGuigan.

Kalize, of Windmill View, Letterkenny, lived a life of remarkable courage and brought joy to everyone she met.

Though she faced a complex health condition, Kalize accomplished much and touched so many lives in her thirteen years.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Kalize was the star of Christmas in Letterkenny when she was invited to switch on the town’s ‘Star of Hope’ in the centre of the Polestar Roundabout.

November 2020: Kalize (aged 8) after switching on the Star of Hope in Letterkenny

The following year, she was celebrated by the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice with an Oscar for a film she proudly created with her sister, Sophie.

She also had the privilege of opening a new outdoor classroom at her primary school, Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Illistrin, where her legacy will be fondly remembered.

October 2021: Kalize McGuigan, aged nine, won the LauraLynn Oscar for Best Adventure Movie for her film ‘Spy Sisters’.

Kalize is survived by her loving mother, Sarah Louise McGuigan, her sisters, Sophie and Ruby, aunt Ciana (AKA Putsy), uncles, Martin and Damien (AKA Uncle’s Day), Granny Bridie, Granda John, cousins and extended family.

Mass of the Angels for Kalize will take place in St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny at 11am today, Monday, with burial afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.

Family time from 10pm to 10am and on the morning of the funeral please.

Family flowers only with donations in lieu if desired to the Laura Lynn Hospice c/o any family member or Con McDaid Funeral Directors.

May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.
