A series of record-breaking weather events were registered at Malin Head’s weather station this April.
Wednesday 30th April saw the mercury climb to 23.4°C at Malin Head, setting a new record for the highest April temperature in 125 years. This beat the previous April record of 21.4°C, which was set on 19th April 2019.
Malin Head also recorded its highest monthly sunshine total for April in 68 years. A total of 237.9 hours of sunshine were registered throughout the month, making the northern station the sunniest location in the country!
Finner, in Ballyshannon, also broke its April temperature record of 14 years on Wednesday, with a temperature of 23.7°C.
Met Eireann has revealed that on Wednesday, Athenry, Co Galway provisionally broke the national April maximum air temperature record with 25.9°C. The previous benchmark was 25.8°C, set in 1984 in Glenties, Co Donegal.
Mean air temperatures across the entire country were above their long-term average for the month, contributing to April 2025 being the third warmest April on record for Ireland since 1900.
