Armagh 1-16 v Donegal 1-21 (AET)
It took extra time to separate Donegal and Armagh’s Minor footballers in their Ulster Minor Championship clash this afternoon.
Faced with a difficult away journey to the Athletic Grounds, the young Donegal side had to come from behind in this encounter from the off – a goal in the second minute of the match for Armagh giving them control over the early proceedings.
Some superb scores from the boots of Donegal would give them a slight advantage at the break however, two-pointers from Shane Sweeney and Kalvin McLaughlin the pick of the bunch – leaving it 0-08 to 1-04 at the interval.
Both sides were lock-step in the second half, trading scores, with Armagh bringing the game to level pegging in the dying moments to take this encounter to extra time.
Armagh again got a fast start to the additional period, quickly recording three unanswered scores in five minutes.
Donegal would battle back to level the proceedings again with just moments to spare in extra time – up stepped Odhran Ryan for Donegal who capitalised from chaos in the Armagh defence to strike a super goal and hand Donegal the lead.
Two additional points in the waning moments would wrap things up for Donegal, who have now earned their place in the Ulster Minor Semi-Finals.
