Locals in the border town of Bridgend have called for action to be taken over repeated instances of dangerous driving in the area.
The calls come after a video was shared on social media which showed a car drifting on a busy roundabout in the town yesterday evening.
Within the video, posted by the Cónaitheroirí Burt group on social media, a silver Lexus can be seen drifting around the roundabout a number of times, forcing all traffic in the area to wait.
The incident has been labelled as “worrying” and “madness” by the group.
“This is Bridgend on Saturday evening 3rd May before 9pm, a very worrying sight with local people and all road users feeling threatened on their journey through the area,” they posted.
“Is anyone capable of putting an end to this madness on a main arterial route?”
Donegal Daily contacted Gardaí in relation to the incident, and other claims made on social media relating to dangerous driving in the area last night.
In response, Gardaí said that they had not received any such reports from members of the public.
Locals have hit out at the incident, one commenting that they were “…a danger to other road users. It’s a disgrace.”
Another stated that “…those cars blocking the road need to be reported. We are sick listening to this every weekend.”
Local Councillor Paul Canning also commented on the video, saying that public representatives need to take a serious look at creating a safe, professional environment such as a track where drifting, diffing and racing can take place away from the general public.
“I think it’s time that we seriously looked at creating a space for people with this type of driving skill to display and compete,” the Councillor said.
“I know it’s dangerous but we as Councillors should be looking at facilitating this sport off (of the) road.”
