A man who was arrested during protests in Letterkenny yesterday has been released by Gardaí without charge.

The protests, which saw a large demonstration from far-right anti-immigration protestors and a smaller counter-protest  from anti-racism activists passed largely without incident.

A number of business owners in Letterkenny hit out at the scheduling of both demonstrations, which saw Letterkenny’s Main Street closed off for much of yesterday afternoon.

One man aged in his 30s was arrested by Gardaí for public order offences during the demonstrations, but was later released without charge.

“A man (30s) who was arrested for public order offences and was later released without charge. The events passed off peacefully and attendees dispersed without incident,” Gardaí said in a statement.
