Ceoltóirí Canóla, an all-female teen Barbershop quartet from Donegal, is set to represent Ireland on the International stage in Denver, Colorado this summer.

The award-winning quartet has qualified for the International Barbershop Harmony Society’s Convention.

They have made history by becoming the first Irish quartet to qualify for the prestigious Varsity Quartet Contest at this global event.

Their qualification for this competition is a monumental achievement for both the quartet and the Irish Barbershop community, as they prepare to compete against some of the world’s best young quartets.

“We’re beyond excited and incredibly honoured to represent Ireland on the international stage,” says Sadbh Breathnach, the lead singer of Ceoltóirí Canóla.

“Competing in Denver will be a dream come true, and we’re so grateful for the support we’ve received so far.”

Formed in late 2023, the quartet brings together four talented young secondary school students: Alice O’Connor (Soprano), Sadbh Breathnach (Lead), Katie Coyle (Baritone), and Síne Ó hAodha (Bass). Their musical journey began within Danu Young Women’s Choir, under the guidance of their choir director, Douglas Carnes, who helped nurture their shared passion for vocal harmony and teamwork.

In just a short time, Ceoltóirí Canóla has captured the attention of both judges and audiences alike, thanks to their powerful performances and unique approach to Barbershop harmony.

Ceoltóirí Canóla quickly made a name for themselves in the Barbershop community. In their debut at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers (IABS) competition in 2023, they earned first place in the Youth Quartet category, marking their arrival on the national stage. But their biggest achievement came in 2024, when they were crowned IABS National Quartet Champions.

With their national title under their belts, Ceoltóirí Canóla has set their sights on Denver, but they need need help to get there. The costs associated with traveling to the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Convention are significant, and the quartet has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds for their trip.

The support of the community will help cover travel, accommodation, and competition expenses as they prepare to represent Donegal, and Ireland, on the global stage.
