Bonagee United has this morning confirmed ‘with regret’ that Packie Mailey has stepped down from the position as manager of the club’s senior team.
The Convoy man (main pic on left) took over at Dry Arch Park last May, succeeding Jason Gibson in the role. He led Bonagee United to second place in the Donegal Junior League Premier Division in the 2024/25 season.
A former player at the club, Mailey was a popular choice as manager, but has left the role due to personal and work commitments.
“It has been a great honour to manage the club,” he said in announcing his decision to the club.
He paid tribute to his coaching staff, backroom team and club members for their assistance throughout the season.
“I hope they will remain with the club as they are pivotal to the development and success of Bonagee United,” he said. “Thank you for placing your trust and giving me the opportunity to manage Bonagee United and I wish the club the best in the future and I look forward to seeing Bonagee United in the League of Ireland.”
Bonagee United Chairman Niall Callaghan paid tribute to Packie Mailey.
“We are disappointed to lose someone of the calibre of Packie Mailey from the role,” he said.
“Packie gave the job 100% commitment and professionalism. As a club, we must respect his decision and thank him for the service he has given us over the past season.”
