Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty has called on the Taoiseach to recognise his failure to tackle the relentless cost-of-living crisis and bring forward a cost-of-living package.
The Sinn Fein TD was responding to the Taoiseach ruling out supports for people struggling with the cost of living.
Deputy Doherty said that either the Taoiseach doesn’t get the pressure people are under or he is choosing to ignore it.
He added “By any measure, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have failed to get to grips with the cost-of-living crisis.
“People are getting crucified by rent or mortgage payments, car insurance, electricity, and childcare.
“On top of all this, the government, backed by independents, just last week hiked the carbon tax again – making gas bills, home-heating oil and a bag of coal more expensive, with increases for petrol and diesel coming later in the year.
“The government needs to realise the harm they are doing by choosing to ignore the cost of living that is grinding people down.
“Sinn Féin is calling on the government to come to their senses and bring forward a cost of living package that reflects the scale of the crisis.”
