A wildfire has broken out near Creeslough within the last hour.

The fire is currently ablaze in the townland of Drimnaraw, which is located along the “bog road” between Termon and Creeslough.

The full extent of the blaze is not yet known, with videos appearing on social media showing billowing smoke and flames in a roadside field.

Local Councillor Michael McClafferty also shared this video showing the massive wall of smoke being produced by the fire, which is near the Glenveagh area.

Members of the Fire Service are currently on the scene fighting the blaze.

County Donegal is currently under a status orange high fire risk notice, which was issued by Donegal County Council on Thursday.

Landowners and members of the public are urged to be vigilant and to report any uncontrolled or unattended fires immediately to the fire service by dialling 999 or 112.

House holders or building owners in areas susceptible to wildfire are advised to remove or cut back any vegetation in the immediate vicinity of their house, building or oil tank to prevent wildfires damaging or destroying their property. Cleared areas should be maintained free of vegetation and combustible material.

That high fire risk warning remains in place for Donegal until Monday.
