National: Garda killed after collision at speeding checkpoint

A member of An Garda Síochána has been killed at a speed checkpoint in County Dublin this afternoon.

The on-duty Garda was struck by a motorcycle in the incident, which took place at around 1pm.

RTÉ News are reporting that the 49-year-old Garda was a father-of-two who was a member of the Roads Policing Unit.

The rider of the motorcycle involved, a man aged in his 30s, has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.

The scene of the incident has been cordened off, pending a technical examination.
