Funding of €18,887 has been awarded for the installation of accessible playground equipment in Ramelton village.

The funding will provide for inclusive options for children with disabilities, with details and the location of the equipment to be unveiled in due course.

The Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation was announced today by Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley. Many of the projects funded under this year’s scheme give particular focus to inclusion and access.

Pat the Cope Gallagher TD said he is delighted with the funding as it will directly benefit children and families in the Ramelton and surrounding area.

He praised Donegal County Council for making the application and securing the €18,887 as the max funding was €20,000 per project. Councils also had to provide matching funding of at least 25 per cent of the cost of the project.

Fine Gael Senator Nikki Bradley added: “I look forward to seeing the completed project of Installation of Accessible Equipment in Ramelton Village. I know this project will have a major impact on the vibrancy of our local community.

“As part of this scheme, councils had to consult with local children and young people to receive any funding, so children in Ramelton are at the heart of this project and I hope families across Donegal will avail of this upgraded play area.

“This funding will provide state of the art play areas for all children here in Donegal, encouraging them to play in safe surroundings”, concluded Senator Nikki Bradley.
